Selection Guide for CEDRAT Amplified Piezo Actuators (APA®)

CEDRAT Piezoelectric Actuators

Unlike conventional piezoelectric actuators with stroke being only about 0.1% of their length, APAs relies on a piezoelectric stack and on a deformable shell in order to amplify the allowed displacement. The bending behavior of the shell under piezoelectric actuation results in a continuous stress distribution leading to long lifetimes (up to 1010 cycles). Furthermore, the symmetric shape of the structure makes the actuator insensitive to twist and bend torques. Amplified ratios of up to 10 times can be achieved depending on the shape of the shell.
